I have a gas furnace and lately my furnace has begin to tick like a clock (tick, tock, etc.) give or take a few every 15-20 sec. and over the weekend while the house was sleeping, it wouldnt turn sour. it ended up person on for as best i could figure almost 2 hours and it terminated up being 96 degree in the house. i be able to cut the power at the curiut braker to turn it rotten, but now it happen almost every time its on. with out spending what i quality would be hundreds of dollars on a heating specialist to come look at it, can anybody share me whats going on and maybe how to fix it. it would be much appreciated.
Answers: If the thermostat on the wall is working next it's your solenoid "switch" on the pump. Next time it will not turn off turn to the solenoid for the pump and rap it with a sledge hammer and see if it turns off. The solenoid that turns the pump on and past its sell-by date is probably stuck. Could be the thermostat too. You can check that right now by turning it down the subsequent time it is on and see if that works.
Sound to me like your thermostat surrounded by house is bad. If you use the thermostat solely to control your heating later remove it from the wall and disconnect the 2 wires going to it. If furnace shut down that was your problem. Otherwise find service company to check it out.
