Help for refuse disposal that hums, but doesn't work? so I accidentally put in a fork in my disposal. I...

so I accidentally put in a fork in my disposal. I hear a funny noise and shut off the switch. I be able to shimmy the fork out, but the disposal doesn't work now. It hums, but that's it. Is it broken? Is in that something simple I can do to fix it?
Sounds like the motor over got too hot anyone in a bind.A circuit breaker may have tripped so check your breaker panel for a tripped breaker.

Let it cool down if a breaker is not tripped and try it next.
It could be ruined though but I doubt it.
Yes the motor is trying to run to rotate but is either broken or sounds similar to something else is stuck in it to keep it from working a bone or something is cause it not to work ...you could try to take loose from the sink and check it out to see if you can see anything wrong then reinstall it we did and found that the fork have caused the food and there be also a toothpick in it that caught where the fork i guess forced it into it and locked it but we took adjectives that out and it worked for us if you know how but make sure there is no elect to it back removing it. take a broom handle and stick down into the disposal and pry on the blade so they move, later take out the broom handle and try it again, keep hold of repeteing this intil you get it freed up. also push the reset button on disposal. good luck

that happens to ours adjectives the time. my mom always fixes it within ~~2-3 minutes. not sure how. but its not broken.

ditto JaceNess.

Press the red "reset" button under the sink.
Answers:    sounds like it's still jammed up... i'd double check it with a flash wishy-washy to ensure there's nothing else around the cylinder that has it delayed.

then unplug it, or reset it... there should be a red button underneath the disposal element, press it in and run it again

be sure not to let it run more than a few second if it's still jammed, you could burn the motor up and have alot more problems
