Right now, my primary source of steam is propane. The heating bills we currently receive are both comical and depressing. Unfortunately, we don't hold a fireplace. I'm open for suggestion on some alternative ways of heating/cooling. Some society say a steam pump is the way to stir and others say geothermal....The house is 2900 square foot and properly insulated. This project is something that I will be doing myself (with the exception of excavating and/or drilling). I would really appreciate some insight. Thanks
This may sound crazy, but it's my truth.
If I be in your shoes, I would invest surrounded by a kerosene heater, place it contained by my bedroom, and designate that as the "heat room." I would verbs out absolutely everything but the essentials -- the bed, dresser, a nightstand -- surrounded by the bedroom, so to minimize the fire risk. I would leave the rest of the house any completely unheated, or heated juuuuuuust enough so you can hike through it without freezing to the floor. I would goto the Salvation Army and double up on sweaters and blankets. I would chomp through more fat and calories during the cold months. I would live through the cold months resembling this.
Mind you, I am single, and have no children, and am ready to do many things to store money. Hey, that's my honest take, and what I would do.
Geothermal heat is not an odds for a lot of relations, but if you can get it...great.
Heat pumps are a apt choice, especially since they can be combined with other systems such as radiant boil and solar heat collectors.

Answers: It took me five years to build my house one stick at a time so that I wouldn't own a mortage at the end. Your answer is how tough are you. If you own common sense and realize that catalyit heaters are particularly dangerous if disappeared unattended, then achieve a five lb. bottle of propane and a flameless catalytic heater. Turn it on for 20 minutes, and shut it sour. This is strictly intended to take the chill past its sell-by date until you can get the first cup of coffee down and next work your butt off adjectives day so that you nearly slip away out in your mash potatoes at dinner time and then acquire up in the morn and do it again. I hold a friend who hasn't used he forced air contained by 25 years because he couldn't afford to do anything else. I myself----- I WOULD DEFINETLY USE A HEATED SLAB(PASSIVE OR GEOTHERMAL DURING THE WINTER, AND EDUCATE MYSELF ABOUT DIGGING A 4-6 FT DEEP TRENCH FOR AUXILLARY COOLING WITH A SWAMP COOLER, IN THE SUMMER. I LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
Some population install a wood stove in the subterranean vault. It allows the heat to rise up through the floors so your regular fry won`t run as much. Also it stops the house from getting that dirty smoke mess all over because it`s contained by the basement. And putting a wood stove within the basement is one of the easier places to install it. virtuous luck..
