Hardwood floors on pressboard? We are ripping up the rug in my house this weekend,...
We are ripping up the rug in my house this weekend, pulled up a small branch and it looks like pressboard that's underneath the rug/pad.
My cross-question is can we install the hardwood floors right on top of the pressboard? They give the impression of being to be in exceptionally good condtion.
Thanks
Answers: it should be okay if they are contained by good condition..singular thing I may do extra is to be sure to lay the hardwood "across" your seal or floor joists below the floor instead of with them..that passageway will give them more support...and it is other recommended that way no situation what you have on the floor..also since it is presswood put your staples or nail a little closer than you would customarily do...most installers will put them every 4 to 6 inches...try going every 3 to 5...
You can but personally I would put a 1/4" subfloor down first, a moment ago to ensure a base instead of one that can cruble fairly easily.
