We are looking at having our house resided. Our option are (a) have vinyl put over the existing grain board or (b) tear stale the existing siding and install HardiPlank.

I have an estimate from a contractor for both. The HardiPlank will cost a bit more, but I believe it will look much better.

Any thoughts on the comparison?
Answers:    Here are my thoughts and experience: We bought a home within Texas that already had vinyl siding put on it. We be thrilled to have the extra perk of this recently installed siding--no painting, maintenence etc... That be in Febuary.

In the middle of July, as I be unloading groceries from the car, I looked up at our house after audible range squirrels fighting and the house looked...powerfully...not right. Upon closer inspection we found the vinyl siding was drooping, wilting or whatever you want to appointment it.

Our first thoughts were that conceivably it was a defective installation or even the product itself. Upon investigating the problem, which have to be fixed since our house looked like it be melting, we found that that be exactly the problem. The vinyl siding was melt from the heat of the Texas sun, but ALSO from the bake captured lower than the siding.

We had no choice but to remove it. We redo it with HardiPlank, which shouldn't own to be painted for many tons years. In additon, I think after it be changed out, it looked more traditional and offered a more finished look and added to the curb appeal since it looks more wood like.

Hope this help.
Hardiplank!!! You will not regret it! It is concidered as a masonry. Which means that it's fire retardant, the plus of your home will go up, you will liberate money on your home insurance, and it's indistructable, well @ tiniest not very undemanding to destroy. Good luck!
