Getting Rid of Opossums? I have a stern yard obstruction that is transportation for opposums....

I have a stern yard obstruction that is transportation for opposums. they don't live contained by my backyard, but they do occasionally eat my dog's food. They nightly move vertebrae and forth on my back balustrade. just in a minute, my dog has injured one opposum. i am glad that happen, but my dog has be barking crazy, and i'm thinking it's because of the opposusms. within are alot more, for sure. i'm not sure if getting traps would be a good hypothesis, because they don't live in my courtyard or anywhere dirclty next to my house. so i'm positive in attendance would be more of these pests coming to give me and my dog a pop in. what should i do? see what the animal control can do?
Answers:    We have matching problem, but only a few times per year.
If they aren't removed far away, or kill, they will breed & raise their population. We can't sleep when the dogs catch as excited & loud as they do over opossums, which often freeze inwardly sight, however out of reach, of the dogs---which really does frustrate them!

The 1st time, it be between 2 close wire fence, & growling & baring its teeth. So I removed the dogs to where on earth they couldn't see or hear it.

The 2cnd time they pulled it off the wall, & I thought killed it, but as I be getting rid of it, it began moving! So, I have to kill it.

The 3rd time one be on the neighbor's fence, right by our balustrade. He came out, knock it off the wall, & hit it over the head near a strong stick.

There are "Have-A-Heart" traps, that do no injury. They must be baited next to something oppossums like. You can name animal control to pick up any possums you catch.
Also--make sure that you are NOT going away ANY food / scraps --Or ANY GARBAGE-- contained by your yard, because this Will Attract them! My neighbors hold food out 24/7 for their dogs. So we've had trouble next to rats, too.

Definately ask Animal Control for their advice, & how they might be of give a hand. You might also want to research opossums a bit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opossum#Rep...
They have LOTs of babies! And chomp through almost anything.
If you really want to get rid of the opossums you are any going to have to takeover them in a trap and cart them very far away or you are going to own to kill them. They really do pose a big problem for your dog. They could claw out his eyes or they could present him rabies. I would just eradicate them because they can always come subsidise.
