my home ac unit doesnt feel resembling the motor is putting enought air out the registers, my house stays cool except in the afternoon hours, heat up, the takes forever to cool down. replaced unit concluding year.
You either involve coolant, your unit is too small, or a new filter. possible duct work have holes or may need to replace insulation in attic.
Did you check the sizing of the ductwork and component compared to the heat gain of the house. It's imparitize that systems are properly sized. Check your filter it may be plugged reducing air flow.It may be cheaper at this point to increase the insulation contained by the attic to try to help than to replace the system again Sounds like your skylight unit is not big enough for your place.
Or approaching my place..central air but 3 stories...will not hold the upstairs cool..NOT big enough
Answers: Some good suggestions so far.
We only know what you convey us. You are suspecting not enough air. Start at hand.
Measure the temp at the return air and then at the vent closest to the furnace/air handler. The difference should be around 20 degree. If it is more you may be right you are not moving enough air.
Those "feel like" filters that you can't see through sometimes are too restrictive. The filters surrounded by the furnace are only there to save the blower clean, not clean the upper air in the house. So maybe a thinner filter might lend a hand. Sometimes if they are in a "V" shape in the element you can use bigger ones to get more air through them.
I assume the hanger-on is on high speed for cooling.
You might want to have the blower controls cleaned. The fins in the blower wheel are a curve shape and it doesn't help yourself to a lot of dust filling within those divots to reduce the amount of air it moves while turning at 1,600 rpm.
People hold their blowers cleaned FAR too rarely. If it has be a few years you should consider that.
Once you know it is moving the air it should, and the temp drop is about 20 and not low, resembling below 15 degrees. Then it is probably doing it all it can.
Then you want to work on keeping heat out of the house or add a windowpane unit to suppliment the central.
It is several times harder to cool than it is to heat and if the outdoors temp gets above 95 degree the efficiency starts to fall rotten since it uses that air to remove the heat. And at like time the house is gaining heat faster.
Good Luck.
