Gas waterheater of late lit but seem strange... possibly? Our pilot light go out two days ago and the landlord, who...

Our pilot light go out two days ago and the landlord, who is infamous for not showing up, didn't show up. The control know was somewhat confusing so I turned it down as low as it would go, open the nearest window, and took the panel past its sell-by date so the gas (if any) wouldn't build up.

So I just go and took a look at the thing again because I haven't taken a functioning shower contained by 3 days and figured the piece out. The pilot light lit and stayed but presently everytime I turn the temperature determine up to warn the piece fires up really loudly and the flames reflect sickly off the floor (there is somewhat crack between the panels). Is this normal, it never sounded this loud since?
The unit is not getting adequate oxygen to operate properly. Open a window and see if that help. If not call a repairman and own them send the bill to the manager. That should get them bad their duffs.

Well, for one item, it is trying to heat, what... 50 gallons of cold wet?

I still think you should own the thing serviced, even if your hotelier is not bright adequate to do so!
Answers:    A blue flame is best. It may be a bit dirty. Re: the noise...you probably never have your face so close to it. Or be much aware of it. In many areas, the gas company will come out for free to check on it. Call them.
