Every troubleshooting page I've come across lists 4 or 5 most adjectives problems, but none of them have what I'm dealing next to. My disposal turns "on" and it seems similar to the flywheel is moving, but the impellers don't seem to be going anywhere or doing anything. The nouns it makes sounds approaching someone repetitively hitting something metal on an orange. NOTHING is going down the drain (food-wise - dampen is fine). PLEASE help! I've empty it out the best I can, there's still some small pieces of food - but nothing is working.
gratitude!
Answers: You should be able to draw from an Allen wrench into the bottom of the disposal (underneath). Turn it to free it up. If you can't do that, try a hammer pedal or large screwdriver within the top - just turn the entire contraption. If everything turns freely and the disposal still doesn't work it is probably time to replace it. They can be repaired, but not easily.
Those little impeller blades are supposed to spin freely as economically. They must be stuck. Check that. I have see them get rusty stuck on some cheaper model disposals. Unplug it, remove the rubber boot resting on the disposal. Then you will be able to see what's wrong. The boot should come right out if you simply pull up on it from the top next to your fingers. Reach in and receive close to the rim edge of the boot or you may break it. It may not be very pretty on the underside of that boot. They are recurrently gross with food muck.
