I have a wardrobe 5 foot by roughly speaking 4, that could easily topple forward if pulled on by the kids. What is the best style to secure it to the wall?
To be undamaging I would not secure it to the wall unless you know exactly where on earth the studs are in the wall to protected it properly. Why not buy a couple of metal L bars and protected them to the sides of the waldrobe and the floor. I think this would be better.

Drive several long (3" or more) wood screws through the vertebrae of the wardrobe into the studs of the wall behind it.

If this is unachievable, put some shims under the front foot to cause it to tip towards the back. This will put the center of gravity closer to the back and harder to topple forward.
Answers:    Many elevated pieces of furniture now come beside security straps, and they are a great notion around children.

Take a piece of nylon strap (similar to the straps on a back-pack), 6 to 8 inches long.

Using drywall screws (because they hold a lot of grip), screw the strap to the vertebrae of the furniture. Pick a spot that has some structure (so you don't screw through the piece and check out of a sharp end to snag clothing inside). Attach the other call a halt to the wall, again looking for a stud or support.

It may be tough to get aft the wardrobe to screw into the wall, but do your best to secure it to a stud for the best safekeeping.

Keep the doors and drawers closed, in common, to discourage the kids from climbing them like a stepladder.
