my extention on our house is around 14 years old,be there when moved contained by.in the winter time,a corner of the room in the vicinity the skirting developes mould.ive checked the dpc,and the insulation when i removed several outer bricks last summer to see if i could spot anything to blame for it,but adjectives looked in command, now just now ive also noticed surrounded by the same room, contained by the recent windy weather, feel air coming from the wall table lamp switch! now this tell me there must be a hiatus or something from outer to inner bricks, poss the roof? it all looks intact when i checked, its a flat roof but have been re-done some years ago,and it looks to be a correct job,no leak etc.could this mould issue be connected with the atmosphere in the cavity?
Answers: The mould is possibly due to a drought of ventilation but could be down to a reprimand in the dpc or dpm (damp proof membrane). Being built 14 yrs ago its potential that some sort of thermal block was used on internal skin. But, if it be built with a concrete block it is adjectives to develop cold spots particularly if the cavity is uninsulated. The draught coming from the buoyant switch could be due to empty mortar joint in any skin. If air bricks enjoy been installed for a wooden floor, its possible that the collars enjoy not been installed properly. Alternatively, check whether the electrics hold been laid within the roof space. If they have, its possible nouns is travelling down the conduits. If the flat roof has a ventilate soffit or a gap between the fascia and the wall this could be the source of the draught into the roof space thus travelling down the electrical conduits. Having cavity plague insulation may solve the problem initially but can cause problems surrounded by the future.
More than predictable DPC under floor take a damp meter from DIY store and gauge also the insulation between the walls may be wrong and pulling moisture down. If it was originally a garage DPC is probably the problem
