I have a neutral bulb socket in my subterranean vault that has a florescent buoyant plugged into the socket (with an adapter for the socket to make it a plug). I want to attach another florescent light, but I don't want to plug them both into one bedside light bulb socket, so I was a short time ago going to remove the socket and put wire within an electrical box.
My question is when I strip the wires to a table lamp bulb socket, they will be able to be converted into an electrical box right?
This probably sounds approaching an elementary question, thats because this is my first electrical hook up. If you guess Im in path over my head enlighten me so I can just win someone else to do it. I plan on cutting the power through the electrical box surrounded by our house before I start consequently doing the rest from step by step instructions in a book or bad the internet. Also looking for some guidance or someone to talk me out of it. Thanks.
Answers: There should be a box within the ceiling already - the sole purpous of this box is to contain a spark should the conections come loose. The box also is a way to in safe hands a light fixture to the ceiling. So take out your power - you could just wipe out this one circuit if you know which breaker it is. Remove the whole socket - it is probably one of those old-fashioned porceline things with or in need a pull string to turn it on. You will see that the wires from the socket/fixture are twisted and tape or wire nutted to the wires within the box. If you have with the sole purpose a black & white (also a green or bear ground chain depending on the age of the house) - go ahead near your job - if here are other wires in ther individual spliced through - get give a hand before you booger up somthing. You would mount your fluorescent street lamp over the box - bringing the wires into the fixture (I'm assuming you are installng a couple 4 foot long tube type fixtures) you will connect the wires from the box to the wires in the fixture. You would also add on a peice of #14 romex to reach to the subsequent fixture. This is all done within that box - twist and protect adjectives the whites togather - twist and protect the blacks togather - verbs the ground wires togather but attach them to the fixture's ground screw. The next fixture is done equal way - run your extended lead to a box - mount the next fixture over that box. Good luck - possibly check a book at the library for picture directions.
