Electrical problem? i am having a problem next to my air compressor. after it...
i am having a problem next to my air compressor. after it builds up and i use the atmosphere it wont restart when it needs to. the motor turns slow and kick the breaker out. It is brand new 220 volt 4.5 hp 80 gal Kobalt brand. Like i said it in recent times wont restart if there is pressure contained by the tank. I am running it bad of a 6200 watt (9000 surge watt) generator. Is my power supply to my breaker box too small or is this compressor too big for the generator. compressor draws 25 amps and the generator is 30 amps please help
Answers: Your generator is too small for the nouns you're powering. When you start the compressor unloaded the generator can provide enough power to start the nouns. However when loaded its just not ample. Most motors will draw between 4 to 6 times full load current during starting. Your motor beside its 20 amp full load current will draw around 80 to 120 amps when started. Your generator, beside its 9kW surge rating, will only provide around 40 amps for motor inrush.
How unpromising does the generator engine lug down when starting? Is there any road at all you can unload the compressor motor when starting it besides the patent empty reservoir?
Have you tried your compressor by plugging it into your house or garage (something that could provide the additional inrush current needed)?
I suspect if you do plug it surrounded by to something besides the generator that you'll be able to start it generally even loaded.
it starts initially because there's no pressure it has to work against so it pulls smaller amount amps at start up, when it tries to start after you have run the heavens supply down there still pressure built up that it have to work against, this requires more power therefor more amps ,power supply not strong enough
