I dont want to come accross as sounding thick here but i necessitate to know something, when we moved into our house in july here was a electric fire, yesterday we granted we wanted a different one so we got on of those electric stove type fires, when we took the antiquated elecrtic fire out there is a big square hole bringing up the rear the fire which looks like pipes for a gas fire which have been seeled, our unsullied fire is smaller than the old one and we are wanting to put a board up to cover the hole as we can see the hole showing losing the new fire.....can we block the hole??hope this make sense......cheers
Answers:    just to reiterate the point on drying,if you dont provide some kind of exposure to air you could end up next to damp patch on the chimney wall.a 9''x6''louvered grill behind the hot fire would be suitable.
it may own had a solid fire with a stern boiler, or it may have have a gas fire, but either road, it sounds like it is a chimney. If you block it up you should provide some compassionate of ventilation within the wall.
