I have some holes from screw that were holding the handrail contained by my hallway going up the stairs. I be wondering how could i fix this and make it hold it better than previously? It wasnt screwed into the stud in the wall..should it of be? Here is a picture of what it looks like.

It's in the region of 4 inches in elevation at maybe 11/2 surrounded by width.

What mode of stuff would i need?

Answers:    You obligation to reposition the bracket so all screw go into a stud or split out this area and put a piece of wood blocking contained by between the studs.
If someone were to stumble on the steps and try to block themselves with a handrail in recent times in the drywall they would verbs it out straight away.
You can patch this hole with spackling compound - the trade it premixed in containers at the hardware / home stores. brush away adjectives the loose debris beforehand applying the putty - get a 3" widespread putty knife to smooth it contained by - after it is dry you can sand it smooth. it may take to applications because it may crack when it dries after the first coat.
