I have a doorbell that quit working. I don't know how to tell if it is the bell or the transformer
you need to have a digital meter and know how to use it,,, or you could buy a total door chime kit for like 15 buck and replace adjectives the parts
Take the cover off the bell and see if it runs on batteries. If it runs past its sell-by date a transformer you can touch the transformer it should be warm. If it is take the button rotten the outside and touch the 2 wires together if the bell works its the button. Its only 24 volts you won't get hurt. It could be the switch as all right! Unless you know about electricity, you would be better off hiring a handyman!! Or ask around, if a neighbor asked me I would help out them out!
Answers: Verdugo: dance to the transformer and check for power coming out you should get a 24 volts dc. Then, check for power across the switch you should get one and the same, then check for power at the bell. If you have power at the transformer and not the switch consequently re-wire the system. The key is having power. If you own power at the switch and nothing happens when you press on the switch and you do hold power at the door bell when you press the switch then the bell is bad. That simple. Just follow the circuit. and a moment ago comdem where it stops. you can also check for continuity at the switch. if you don't get any signal when you press on it. the switch is unpromising.
