my 1 year old lab like chewed the trim of my door. and inside this room he have the trim along the walls. Its not ALL the trim. Just a little portion he chewed on each side of the frame. How do i fix it? Do it myself? How so later? Or should i hire someone. How much would it cost? Plz help
The cheap fix is durabond (mudjoint compound) then a sand and painting. I fixed some trim in my townhouse this instrument before I sold it that was worn out from the previous owners dog. If the damage is extensive some preprimed wood trim might be in writ. Plynth blocks simplify instalation by eliminating the need for45 level cuts plus they add a nice designer touch. A cheap miter saw will come in handy. Try borrowing past buying. If you have access to a compressor I have to recomend an nouns powered trim nail gun. You can pick up one that will be adequit for less than $50. Call and see what one rents for. It make the job a snap and looks great. measure twice cut once. Purchase new trim at the lumber patio. Match the stain, stain and varnish two coats of satin varnish on the new trim. This is trim work and not patch it and go. If you try to do it any other path the result will be marginal. Remove the old trim. Miter the new trim, cut, fit and install. Fill the fastener holes with colored putty.
Staining- Purchase a stain that is lighter than the finish you want. Stains progress toward brown or red. If you need a color with more brown move toward using walnut stain by adding up a small amount at a time. If the stain needs a richer color move toward red. Using red mahogany stain. You may have to try several times to get hold of it just right. Start with 4oz rag cup.
With a paint stores spectrograph they may be able to do this for you if you take a example to the store.
If you have the equipment to miter and can fit the trim may determine if you should find some help from a friend or hire the work done. In any shield you can save if you stain and varnish the trim yourself, because it can be time consuming.

The first step is to remove the weak trim. You can do this with a simple pry bar, or even a flat head screw driver. You will probably need to remove the entire strip of damaged trim.
Make sure you paint the fresh trim before you put it down. It will make it much easier when adjectives is said and done.
The only thing you will involve to worry about is the corner. There is one piece of the corner that butts up against the wall, here is the other piece that butts up against the molding. If the piece you need to replace is butted up against the wall you are in perfect shape. If the piece you need to replace is butted up against the molding you will need to kind another cut.
This second cut is called "coping" and is best done with a "coping saw". It is close to a hack saw but with a much thinner blade. It can be baught for under $10. To be paid your coping cut, cut the trim at a 45deg angle. You will need a mitre saw or a mitre box for this. If you don't have any, a mitre box can be baugt for under $10. It is just a guide to set your wood surrounded by that has nothes cut out at 90 and 45 degree angles that you can put your saw surrounded by to make angled cuts. When you have your piece cut at 45degres, you help yourself to the mitre saw and cut along the ridge of where the 45 deg cut meets the flat outskirts of the board. This will give you a finished edge that will peferctly fit up against the other piece of trim.
Next you simply pin the new piece of trim to the wall. If you don't use a nail gun you will want to use small finish nail, and then set them into the wood by using a nail set or a small phillips screw drive and tack hammer. Then fill the nail holes near wood putty and paint.
Finally and most importantly.. measure twice cut once.
