I know it sounds ridiculous to have to ask, but I'm in recent times curious if there is any routine keeping required for gas fireplaces, up to and including log replacement.
Answers: You should never have to replace them. I've have some for years and they're just fine. However, I would hail as your gas company and ask them to come out and service your fireplace twice a year. The contacts get dirty around the pilot flimsy sometimes and the fireplace won't come on by flipping the switch as usual. I think they will dispatch someone out for free. I also used to take out the cup fireplace door and clean it a couple of times a year as it get a slim coating of soot on it.
No, just net sure the gas vents are clear- the log isn't consumed by the fire so no inevitability to replace it.
