The deck is 14'x17'. The outside posts are 4x4 steel. The roof band is double 2x10 SYP. The hip roof joist are 2x6 on 24" centers. I would rather not hold intermdiate posts that would tend to obsure the view. I live surrounded by E. Tennessee where snow nouns is unusual, but every 10 yrs or so we do get a 10" mass.
Answers: There is certainly a joist that can span that distance but how much do you want to pay? If it is that noteworthy contact a local structural engineer so he can digit the true load (rather than Internet guesses) and what you entail.
What is the span length of the roof rafters?
Is thr hip roof REALLY hip rafter and if so has the securing rafter be constructed from a double (header)?
