Dimmer switch is attached to ALL outlets!? Hi all, I involve your help! I lately moved into a condo....

Hi all,

I involve your help! I lately moved into a condo. In the bedroom, the main switch is a dimmer switch that controls a halogen night light. One problem: this switch controls all of the rest of the outlets contained by the room too - so if the light is rotten, everything goes rotten. This does not help especially if something you involve, like an alarm clock is plugged within too.

Does anyone know how this can be fixed? I would like to still know how to dim the light but own the other outlets indepenant of each other.

THANKS! Jeff
Sounds approaching someone installed the dimmer and did not wire it correctly.

You could any rewire the room, separating the plugs and switches, or put a separate switch on the light itself which would be much easier. Any hardware store can relate you how to do it. Plus the product you buy should have installation instructions. It's a extremely simple job

Best wishes.
Answers:    Jeff, Did you try the bottom receptacle? Usually they run 3 conductor telecommunication when they put in a switched receptacle, allowing for the red head to be switched and the black to be constant. they use the switched red for the top receptacle and put the black on the bottom one to keep it live at adjectives times. (you break off a small piece of copper between the two brass screw to seperate them) For alarm clocks and other items that need to be powered adjectives the time. If not you could just give notice the switch on and get used to walking into the room and turning the bedside light on at the lamp. (put it close to the door to label it easier) there is also the potential that some one may hold both of the feeds switched surrounded by the switch box. Take off the cover and verbs out the switch and let us know what you find.
