What exactly is the difference between a cordless power drill w/ a 1/2" chuck and one w/ a 3/8" chuck (besides size)? Is one side more suited for a certain type of drill work than the other? Is one usually more preferred than the other? Is a different compatible w/ drill accessories than the other?

I'm looking to buy a drill as a endowment, for someone who would use it for various home continuation needs. Thanks.
Answers:    With a 3/8" chuck size you are predetermined to only using drill bits beside a 3/8" shank. And with the 1/2" chuck you can use adjectives bits with a 1/2" shank, and most bits that are 5/8" or larger you can procure in the 1/2" shank. With the 3/8" your are predetermined to about 1/2" dills. Anything larger needed for your project you would entail a 1/2" chuck size.
Go with the 1/2. It is suited for larger bits and is more flexible.
