My Kenmore dryer, which is about 19 years outdated, recently started doing something wierd. After running for going on for a minute it give out a loud thump from the rear part of the dryer. Then it runs usually for another minute or so, then another loud thump. Any planning? Otherwise it seems to be operating in general. Thx.
You own 2 rubber wheels mounted to the spinal column plate that the drum sits on and revolves around on. You should replace both of these. Think of it as a car tire coming rotten the rim and thumping around.

It's unfolding you it wants to retire.
19 years infirm, is a long time for a dryer to be around. Sounds like you may enjoy developed a running gear problem.
Buy a new one.
Answers: Spock is possibly right. The two support rollers holding the rear constituent of the drum certainly do wear out and I enjoy seen some that only just sieze, You may have a support roller that have siezed and the drum is "thumping" over it. Was there any resonance prior to the thump..like a squeal? It is assured to check. Open the lint trap and remove the two screws below the trap lid. Then get a putty run through and under the front snake of the top of the dryer about 2" surrounded by from the outer edge, push the putty axe to release the spring clip. At the same time pull up on the lid. Do the same on the other side and move up the lid up. It will hinge on the rear clips. (Hopefully you hold unplugged the machine.) Slip sour the wire supports (little green clips) and remove the two screw (one on either side) that hold the front panel to the frame. Depending on your piece of equipment, you will either own a one piece front or two piece. If it is one piece, the front panel will lift up stale the bottom clips and you can carefully place the front panel rotten to the side without removing wires. If it is a two piece front, the see panel needs to be removed first up to that time removing the front panel. To remove the kick panel, hold a small flat screw driver and place it in the middle of the split between the two panel. Gently pry down to disengage the top clip and then verbs to disengage the side clips. There are two screws (one on any side) of the top panel that need to be loosened( not removed) While you are down here, notice how the belt runs through the lazybones pulley. Push the pulley towards the motor to release the belt. Remove the upper screws and lift up the front panel off the screw. Carefully place off to the side. The drum will erect out with the belt. Feel the rollers to see if they are siezed. If so, remove and replace both of them. Reverse the process to reassemble. Remember to hold the right hand roller adjectives the way forward when reassembling. Make sure that the flipside drum seal (felt similar to material attached to flipside drum) is not wedged between drum and stern plate. Hope that helps
