i replaced a bi-metal(?) t-stat for someone recently near a digital one. the unit cycles much better and is markedly much more efficient.
my request for information is, what kind of thermostat is the aged one? it has a shrunken metal strip that bends on temp changes. the run out of the strip is in a chalice bulb between two magnets. when the metal gets close satisfactory to one of the magnets, it makes and the circuit, (cool or heat), closes and the component comes on. what kind of t-stat is that? ty.
Answers: A Bi metal stat works, by have two metal strips fused to each other, as current flows thru them the warmness generated expands both metals at a different rate cause a curve in the strip, which will eventually instigate the circuit, as the strip cools the circuit will close. The contacts you see arn`t magnetic, the commotion is caused by boil alone
Does the glass bulb contain mercury? or did it crack and run out?? these type of stats be common tons years ago, the magnet each side be to esure that the bi-metal deflected far adequate either method, with a 'snap' behaviour.
