Central Heating interview!? I turn it on, it comes on, stays on a...
I turn it on, it comes on, stays on a while, and achieves the temp indicated by the thermostat. However, instead of merely going off and coming on to argue the temp, it stays on and blows REALLY COLD AIR for like 15 minutes straight! It drops the temp inside from 75 to roughly speaking 65 during that time, in the meantime, the massive fan outside, the one over the unit doesnt turn, and STEAM comes out of the section. After a while, the fan turns on, and it blows hot again. What is going on? I dont twig why anything would be designed like this. Thanks within advance for your counsel or ideas.
You hold a heat pump and when it is blowing out the cold nouns it is in the defrost mode. For more info, check out the grill pump page at my source.
1. Ensure your fan switch is within the AUTO position and not the ON position
2. IF fan is contained by AUTO, it seems that your defrost timer/thermostat is operating in an unseemly fashion. When your unit call for defrosting the outside grill pump, the heat pump turns rotten and heat coils outside thaw any ice. While the outside section is defrosting, inside grill coils are SUPPOSED to turn on to keep the inside nouns that blows from becoming cold. This seems to be the crux of your problem.. A technician is needed.
After looking at your investigational info: Most heat pump thermostats hold two separate switches on them. one that controls the mode: Heat, cool, emergency heat. And a second switch that controls merely the fan: Usually only ON or AUTO. If you have this second enthusiast switch, ensure it is on AUTO. Then the fan singular runs when the heat pump is on.
However, as I said nearer, when the outside heat pump is defrost, you may have cold nouns blowing inside because the inside heat strips are not taking over for the certainty that the heat pump is defrost and not heating. Needs a technician.
Answers: your bake pump is going into defrost mode. Depending on brand, some at that time send a signal inside to see some electric heat to anger the air during defrost but not adjectives of them. York is one that does and trane and lennox. Cynthia doesn't have it exactly right. Your outdoor part does not have electric boil coils that melt the rime, the unit switches the reversing tap and deenergizes the condenser fan to defrost the ice build up,and second not adjectives brands signal electric heat when surrounded by defrost. If your temp is dropping below set point by several degrees contained by that time then your stat should signal electric warmness to maintain temp up to 2 degree of set point then turn stale and let the boil pump do the rest.
