Central Air Problem/Cost estimate? I recently bought a 2-story, 3000 sq ft house next to...
I recently bought a 2-story, 3000 sq ft house next to an antique 3-ton unit crucial air conditioner. The airflow upstairs is nearly non-existant, and the airflow downstairs isn't much better. The element operates and the freon level are good, and everything works as advertise, but the house cooks now next to the temps in SC reaching 100. What I enjoy been told by contractors is the ductwork is inefficient (the garage be enclosed and added to the sq footage of the house), the element is too small, and a dual unit system is the track to go. What I haven't get is a price for any of this.
My question is... About what would the cost be for a) replacing the dinosaur component I have, and adding together a smaller (1.5 ton) unit for upstairs (900sq ft) short modifying the ductwork in the house more than beyond doubt necessary? And is in attendance a more cost efficient track to improve the cooling/airflow to the house minus going with 2 unit?
Answers: Well you could maybe budge with zoning controls to the duct-work and keep hold of just one component but zoning controls for a two zone system would range $1000- $2000.00 not including labor and possible duct modifications.
You own an old system very soon that needs to be replaced.
I would lean towards two separate systems, if one quits surrounded by the future you wont be completely out of grill or cooling as you would with one system beside zoning dampers.
Pricing would be hard for any of us to determine short a lot of specifics, best to acquire estimates from reputable Co. in your nouns.
My guess for the upstairs system with some duct modifications, warmth pump system, $4000-$5000.
Downstairs system about alike with probably profoundly less duct modifications.
I would first try to verbs the evaporator coils, this means getting on the backside of them and cleaning them really good. This might achieve you through the Hot weather and you can then look at replacement.
