Central Air Conditioner Problem...? A couple of nights ago I notice a loud popping noise coming...

A couple of nights ago I notice a loud popping noise coming from my AC component outside the house. When I went out to help yourself to a look I could see a blue flash coming from inside the small compartment which houses a large capacitor and circuit board. When it would flash the adherent would try to come on but then stop again. Inside the house, respectively time the popping noise occur, the digital display on my control panel goes blank. When I first hear this I flipped the breaker until I could take a look the subsequent morning. When I opened up the compartment on the AC section I didn't notice anything visually wrong. I blew adjectives the dust out and replaced the cover. When I turned it back on it worked fine for just about 30 hours... then the popping and blue spark returned next to all of the other residual issues...

Does anybody own any idea what might be cause this? The unit itself is simply about 5 years hoary...

Thanks.
Answers:    The contact switch could be fouled. It is inside the panel and is the main switch for the element. Kill the power and inspect the contact points, if black or melted looking it wants to be changed. It is usually a large black box-like section with the full-size electrical wires coming in attached to one side and generous wires coming out on the other side. They can either fuse together and the component never shuts off or it get so pitted that it actually arcs when it tries to start cause a short.

Yoda out
Sounds like any the wiring is too close to the metal defence or the magnetic contactor is shorting to ground. Also be sure the fan/compressor capacitor terminal are not too near the armour. Of course, make sure the power is sour when you do all of this. A loose chain on the contactor would cause this also. (Sorry, this be an afterthought)
