I have one of those reasonably standard (US) ceiling light fixtures to be precise bowl shaped and takes two lantern bulbs. That thin tin foil lode came sour and now the feathery bulbs radiate directly on to that fiber/insulation material. Is this a fire peril? It is one of three and I don't want to replace it but I also don't want to replace the house and my family any if you know what I mean. Can I put some legitimate tin-foil back surrounded by its place?
Can chlorine ruin my phone?
Answers:    Most likely, the insulation is fiberglass and not a fire threat. However, the foil aid is to deflect light and steam downward, so it is best to replace, and generally unproblematic to do.

Foil or no foil, the fitting should have a lead cage over it...you can take home this from wire web from your hardware store. The wire hold keeps adjectives the insulation stuff away from the heat source. About 6 inches is needed.
Insulation is usually fire proof, but the bulb wishes to be allowed to get it's own steam away....or the bulb will blow, or the heat could come the other passageway and burn its mounting.
