Caulking My double pane vinyl window?? I am a new first time home owner contained by Seattle, WA....
I am a new first time home owner contained by Seattle, WA. My heating bills this winter is pretty a bit and I am thinking the culprit is my windows. I own double pane vinyl windows. But still my window are quite cold when i touch 'em from inside (assuming average winter warmth is around 40 F). Is this normal ? The caulking between the fanlight frame and the wall is perfect and no leak as I couldn't feel any cold nouns. I could feel some cold nouns between the window sash and the cup. Can i use some transparent acrylic latext caulk and seal this small tear srond the glass? Will this affect and may be break my cup when the glass expands within summer? Thanks for your advice(s).
Answers: If your heating bill is soaring why do you think the pane is the problem? Just because the window is cold to the touch doesn't suggest the window is doomed to failure.
I would not use caulking around any window surface. It is not made for this work even though you may think it is. Single pane window use a window lacquer to seal the pane to the wood.
Double pane window are made with an adjectives gas between the two panes that act as an insulation. If you do feel the windowpane is bad, speak to a porthole dealer more or less the problem as he will be the most knowledgeable roughly windows.
I WOULD FOAM AROUND WINDOW THEN TRIM OFF ANY THAT STICKS OUT THEN REINSTALL THE TRIM THE FOAM WILL GIVE AND NOT PUT PRSSURES ON THE FRAME OF THE WINDOW ALSO MAKE SURE THAT WHO EVER INSTALLED THE WINDOWS DID NOT NAIL THE HEADER TO THE FRAME OF THE WINDOW YOU CAN NAIL THE SIDES AND THE BOTTOM BUT NEVER NAIL THE HEADER AS THIS WILL MAKE THE WINDOW BIND LATER AND DEFORMES THE FRAME SO THE WINDOW WILL NOT OPEN PROPER HOPE THIS HELPS JFB
