Can linseed oil be used as a varnish to protect against tarnishing and rusting on copper trim on the outside of someone's house? My mom read contained by the Times about it man used on an indoor metallic surface for similar purposes, so this got the orb rolling. If anyone can find anything, it'd be much appreciated. Thank you!
Answers:    I have never hear of doing this. I have hear where individuals have cleaned brass and copper, and next varnished it to prevent the oxidation.

I personally meditate the nice subtle green patina that copper takes on over time is attractive, but the choice is yours.
The tarnish or corrosion of copper in actuality protects the copper from further corrosion. If you are trying to protect it from corrosion, then do nil. If you want to maintain that shiny appearance next you might be better off using a clear acrylic coating. I've never hear of using linseed oil. Boiled linseed grease does dry after awhile, but I think it take on a yellow shape. I don't know how well it weather.
