Can you transport a refridgerator lay down? My mom is giving me a fridge and we only own...

My mom is giving me a fridge and we only own a van to transport it.
Someone told me that you CAN transport it laying down, but you enjoy to wait for 24 hours to agree to the freon settle before you plug contained by back it contained by! Is this true?
