Can we remove the flourescent pale from our kitchen to replace it next to something prettier? My husband and I bought our house three months ago, and...

My husband and I bought our house three months ago, and the people we have bought it from had lately refinished the kitchen before we moved surrounded by. It looks fabulous except for the flourescent light surrounded by the middle of the kitchen ceiling. It's not an outer-mounted oneĦ the screen for it is flush next to the ceiling, and the actual bulbs are higher up than the ceiling. I really detest the light, even though I know I could find a decorative cover for the eyeshade. Is there any agency to take it out and replace it next to a nicer hanging frothy, and if so, could we do it ourselves, or would we have to hire a contractor?

Help!
In most areas a homeowner can do that type of work lacking a contractor. Nor do you need much expertise. A warranty may be required by the AHJ, but you would have to ask the electrical inspector more or less it. When you remove the old fixture, you will inevitability to patch the hole and paint it and the surrounding area.

Sure you can! When you remove the fixture you'll hold to add drywall to the ceiling and finish it where on earth the fixture was. Matching the surrounding texture is the merely challenge.

Be sure to turn bad the circuit breaker before working beside the wiring.
Answers:    Is this a limp ceiling or just a recessed fixture?

With a recessed fixture I see no drive why not. You would have to resolve how you wanted to cover the hole. You could frame it and put drywall up. Not too complicated. A little work to get a assiduous match. Maybe wood instead and cause it part of your fixture as ably. In other words it could be decorative part to go next to the hanging lantern.

It doesn't sound resembling too big a project to me.

But usually people similar to a lot of standard lamp in the kitchen and specifically one reason they shift with the flourescent. Maybe some separate showy lighting when you don't need as much street lamp is a better and easier solution. Then you still have the bright lantern when you need it.

Good Luck.
