I have a Haier compact fridge thats a few years older, and reliable. Like usual, gradually rime had built up around the freezer portion and have to be removed. Instead of going about melt the ice properly, by turning rotten the fridge and letting it melt, I took another approach. In the termination I was using a center puch and a sledge hammer to carefully pick away at the rime. While doing so I punctured one of the embossed lines in the freezer tray and it started to overrun something at a pretty constant rate. I unplugged the fridge and let it sit overnight. Now the interrogate is, can it be saved? I believe that the flash was leak a refridgerant, as it was cold and have an odd odor in the region of it. So far I have applied an apoxy over the small hole and am letting it set surrounded by. Do you think that this is the right approach? My second guess of how to plug up the hole would be silicone. Both are impermeable, but the apoxy seemed a better choice. What do you believe?
Answers:    I fix them all the time at my shop for $50 bucks. You inevitability to let adjectives the freon go out. Their can be no pressure at adjectives on the system. Then clean the nouns and apply 2 part epoxy. Let this dry for at most minuscule 24 hours. Then you need to put an access spout on the low pressure side of the compressor and pull a vacuum on the system for at least possible 2 hours to remove any air that may own gotten into the sealed system. Air have moisture in it. Moisture cause ice. rime causes blocked lines. You next need to slowly recharge the system next to 1/3rd can of automotive R134a which you can buy at Auto zone or O'Riely.
Anything over 1/3rd can will overcharge and cause the system to lug down. If you own guages then the pressure should merely be 5 PSI on the low side. R134a is safe for the environment and anybody can buy it. As for the access stopcock you are gonna need an A-1 touch about $5 A can of freon 12 ounce around $8 bucks, 2 portion epoxy $7 bucks. A set of gauges and a vacuum pump may be the solitary thing contained by your way. In the out-of-date days before vacuum pumps the older school style was to purge the system using to access valve. Good Luck Sir.
My college-aged son did the exact same thing to his 2 year infirm compact refrigerator (just last month contained by fact)! and punctured the freezer tray, releasing all the coolant. We call around to see if it could be fixed and was told by 3 different places that it can not :(. To receive matters worse, because of the coolant, the refer is considered "hazardous waste": and have to be disposed of at a hazardous materials collection site.
