my room is unusually hot, even has a AC vent, and so I conjecture it is because the wall is not insulated (the room is upstairs and borders with the garage) ... i hold been told to put a "2 inch foam board " or somthing, but I really hold no idea how to insulate it myself..what species of repair guy would do it? and for what cost?
Answers: Try a handyman service. It's hard to predict the cost--you'll entail insulation, drywall, mud, and nails. I would do a 16' x 8' wall for $200. Prices rise and fall in different parts of the country.
A carpenter or handyman could do the career, provided they have the know how.
Get written estimates stating what he proposes to do:
- remove existing covering?
- insulate near ? (foam board or batting next to good R effectiveness, etc)
- installing new drywall or paneling
- mudding, tape and sanding the drywall (at the really least 3 times)
- hauling the refuse, unless you have the ways and funds to dispose of it properly.
- how long will the job steal?
If he's doing all the work be sure the bid is for labor AND materials.
Another entry you might consider is whether or not you want him to paint the room if you have the drywalling done.
If you do, attain that on the bid as well.
Anything you can do yourself will rescue you money overall.
Don't hesitate to receive more than one estimate and ask for references. Check next to the BBB for complaints, too.
Wishing you comfort!
