Can Freon Go Bad? They are replacing my burned out compressor and I thought I had...
They are replacing my burned out compressor and I thought I had read or heard somewhere that freon can turn bad if the compressor burns out. Is that right? I have no concept why my compressor burned out (this is a little used A/C unit to be exact about 5 years old), but they are planning on pumping the freon out, storing it, and then pumping it vertebrae in, after the new compressor is installed. Is that okay?
Thanks.
I was taught not to do that because of contaminants from the compressor burning out.
no do not let them do that the refridgerant is bad what benevolent of a/c co would do that idiots your asking for problems down the road donot use freon from a burn up compreesor tehy must recycle the old freon if they plan on using the the freon get some one else to do the work a worthy a/c service company would never do tjhis
Answers: After a comressor burnout the refrigerant is not to be reused.
It can contain sour which will enhance the burnout of the new compressor. It will eat the motor windings up contained by a hurry.
The liquid line drier is to be changed and a suction dash dryer is added and later removed after a month of operation, when it has wrapped up acid residue.
Virgin refrigerant is then put surrounded by the system after the contaminated refrigerant is removed and disposed of.
If they are not following theses procedures at your house, chances are that it is not a burnout, lately a stuck motor compressor.
