i live in a two bedroom loft that also has an extra storage element upstairs where the hot water oven is stored. in recent months we have teeming stuff in there to the point where on earth you have to wiggle your style to adjust anything on the water heater. so my cross-question is, with having that much stuff (boxes and such) subsequent the hot water heater, could it be considered a fire see?
Yes it can, there is a strict rule to putting gasoline next to it. Even boxes are risky. If the water heater former and lets say caught fire, after it would have an accelerant. Even firefighters say thats a fire see. Id keep at least 3 foot of clearance around it. Or 6 feet when its a gas or propane fired. yes it can. its a good notion to keep about a foot away from the radiator

You should never keep stuff around a water heating system...electric or gas. What you have done is create fuel for a fire if one were to ignite. If you choose to still store things in the vicinity the water heater, I would at tiniest do two things. I would make sure it is accessible and has a clearance of approx. 4-5 foot and I would make sure there is a smoke detector right out side the door. Also maintain the door closed to the area in crust of a fire so it will be better contained. I would suggest leaving 3 ft perimeter around your hose heater if it is electric. If it is gas fired, leave a 6 ft fringe

You can have a situation which may make a fire more possible.

Also, a water heater may leach when the tank fails and adjectives your belongings will become waterlogged.
Answers:    No problem if the water heater is electric, however if it is gas, YES it is a enormously big fire hazard.
I have have to fight house fires because of stuff too close to a gas water heating system!
