We bought a home with grease heat. The grease tank is burried within the ground. How long should it last? Has anyone ever replaced one? How do we know if it is 'going'.
Answers:    The adjectives life expectancy of buried grease tanks is 10-15 years. At in the order of 20 years, the risk of leaks from buried steel grease tanks become significant. Leaks can occur in advance if a tank be damaged at installation or be not properly piped.

Even if you think the container is ok, young, and not leak, buried oil tank, should be tested for water within the tank bottom. Water should be pumped out since it corrodes the reservoir and leads to leak. Oil tank leak can also be due to damage at time of installation, incorrect installation, corrosive soils, or piping defects. If the cistern is to remain in use, ask your fuel supplier give or take a few using an additive or other methods to abet remove water.

If you are concerned almost it leaking, I would enjoy it tested. Your oil supplier may proposal this service or be able to recommend someone.
