I am gutting my house which is old and wired hazardously. As I proceed I have found a row that is hot within one spot but 12 inches away dead. it is direct no outlets or anything close to that. The receptacles are hot. how can this be?

Answers:    what are you using to testing it? If you are using a tick tester it is useless for testing cable. If you are changing the electrical merely shut off the power and rip out adjectives the cables and replace beside new ones. If within dought, call an electrician, they are the professionalls.
