Better to install ducts on the inside of home walls, or outside the walls consequently encase them surrounded by drywall? hi, we need to install ducts for heating/cooling surrounded by our house...
hi,
we need to install ducts for heating/cooling surrounded by our house (currently it's just baseboard heat and are converting to a furnace). my contractor wants to install the ducts surrounded by the existing walls but I'm concerned we are going to open up those walls and create unintended, expensive problems trying to install he ducts around existing electrics and plumbing. I understand plentifully of people avoid this by installing the ducts that extend through the house on the outside of the walls, later close them up again with addtional drywall. however, i disquiet this second option will lift up living space and look ugly/odd.
any opinions on what the better preference generally is for an elder house of about 1200 square foot (not including the basement, which is 400 sqaure feet) next to 2 floors and a basement?
much appreciated.
Answers: I added a boil duct to an old farm I had support in Ohio. I run the duct in a corner of an extra room built a frame around it and sheetrocked it. It looked fine. Obviously surrounded by the wall is ideal if your doing several but you will requirement to choose your walls carefully. Pick walls that dont own plumbing. That should be very trouble-free as most walls dont have plumbing except within a kitchen or in a bathroom wall. The worst item that can happen is you will find a lead that is running to an outlet. This can be smoothly relocated around the duct. Its really just nouns. If you choose outside the walls you are going to be seeing it as long as you live there and probably someday wish you had put it surrounded by the wall. If your insulation in your walls be blown in instead of using roll insulation, prepare for a mess when they cut the wall spread out. Good Luck.
I'd go inside the walls and concordat with anything that shows up. Putting the ducts outside the wall will look slightly adhesive at best and very unprofessional at worst. If I be looking at such a thing contained by a house I was thinking of buying, I would wonder what else indistinguishable idiot had done that wasn't done right.
