I managed to go and get an awesome old GE fridge beside the pull down toy with and rounded top for free. It doesn't work, however. My friend and I changed out the electric lines and narley terminals, but it still won't see on. The thermostat seems to be surrounded by good condition, next to no corrosion or broken wires to be seen. We are pretty sure it is the compressor, since the aficionado is free moving. Anyone have any thinking on whether the compressor can even be changed and what it would cost?
Here is a photo of the fridge and the (what I think is) the model number posted inside the fridge.

Answers:    involve more info, does the compressor have a follower next to it or is here a fan inside the fridge?compressors own a overload that will stop and start on a overload of the compressor.if the compressor was bleak and didn't have impossible windings you would here it clicking on the overload.compressors are cheap.if its the overload about 20 dollars for subdivision easy to install.if you hold a ohm meter you can check compressor and voltage.
check voltage at the compressor when the stat calls for cooling. possibly the compressor is locked. check it's LRA.

it's probably out of R12. time for scrap.
