Automag thermostat is it broken? house wont boil unless at 70 degree?? i just moved to this rental apartment within what i feel is...

i just moved to this rental apartment within what i feel is an elder building. ive been keeping the bake at 70 but got my first months gas bill for $275!!
i want to lower that as much as possible so i lowered temp to 65. however on lowering it you can hear a small click and if disappeared at that the house loses its warmth. and it get quite cold. no hot nouns blows out of vents and we must wear sweaters slippers ect....
that seem wrong to me that 5 measly degrees would produce my house from toasty to freezing???? also that click is only at 70 degree which would suggest that click is controlling the heat?? could it expected my thermostat is broken or been tamper with?
anyway to fix? my husband open the thing and tried sticking a piece of broadsheet on one side. that let him lower the thermostat minus making the click. however heat erudite i dont think it made a difference since the radiator continued blowing hot even when he put it down to 60. so i dont know or do you think hes right? oblige!

Answers:    Might be the thermostat, but it also depends on how big your apartment is? Five degrees can spawn a lot of difference within a large apartment. Can you close bad some rooms when your not using them? How are your windows, might try putting up plastic on them. If you can't staple it to them, procure some small slats of wood and build some frames that will slide into them. That way you can remove them, beside out any harm to the walls, also you can reuse them over and over.

Get the proprietor to look into it. That is ridiculous. If he won't work with you, folder a complaint and find another place to live. It'll be cheaper to move in the long run if your utilities are going to guzzle you up.
