Attic Air Conditioning Leak-Trane XE 80 Mounted on side-what subsequent? My A/C is leaking into ceiling below. Drain pan have been emptied,...
My A/C is leaking into ceiling below. Drain pan have been emptied, and hole surrounded by drainpan seems to be attached to a pipe, but unit is losing eaves. When unit is on, condensation is seen beside small drips on side, but nothing compared to the steady drips in ceiling. There is minimal working space, and component is suspended off eaves about 3 inches beside huricane braces from the rafters. Underneath, I see the pan, the un-related inside vac tube piping and a piece of tin flashing angled into the pan. Called 3 A/C conractors-waiting on callbacks. Does this unit enjoy a filter? From reading other answers it appears to have? How can I get to drain vessel tube without removing furnace and stop leak past it does more damage? (Yes, A/C unit have been shut off)
Answers: The drain pan usually have two drains, a main and an overflow drain. You should be able to access the drains(usually pvc pipe) and use a drizzly vac to clean them out. Usually what obstructs the drains is a soft mucky sludge resembling material. If you can find the end of the drains(either end) you can use a damp vac to suck and blow them clear. I know sounds disgusting. I have a large house that have been added onto thus with two central air units. I bought a damp vac for this very purpose. Seems one of the drains clog up every 5-10 years. Good luck.
the drainpan you explain is the secondary drainpan. sounds approaching your airhandler is out of level enough for it not to drain out of the front of the coil from the primary drain where on earth it should. you should not see any condensation if its done correctly and not have a full secondary drain jar.
