Asbestos surrounded by plaster walls? My house is over 100 years old next to horse-hair plaster walls....

My house is over 100 years old next to horse-hair plaster walls. I'm wanting to remodel but concerned about the possibility of asbestos. Did they use asbestos surrounded by plaster at that time, and should I have it tested?

Answers:    Asbestos can be found within plaster, sheetrock, joint compound, and skim coat. However, I own never seen it surrounded by horse hair plaster. It would not produce sense to have it surrounded by both since the purpose of the horse hair and the asbestos is to do duplicate thing (bind the material). There may be asbestos contained by the skim coat or joint compound though. Best bet is to enjoy each wall component tested.

If they be to use asbestos, it would be in the insulation around pipes or within insulation itself. another place they used it was within floor tiles. If they are less than 12 inches, they probably are made of it and extreme shot to maintain a dutiful seal or cover them would be contained by order.
With the walls though, your biggest concern should be head in the paint.
