Are my stove burners death-defying? I just moved into an apartment next to an electric stove....
I just moved into an apartment next to an electric stove. I cleaned out the drip pans and pulled out the heat elements, and as I was putting some of them wager on in, I notice that the coating on the heating elements is worn away within places, exposing small patches of what looks similar to bare metal. I'm not comparatively sure how electric burners work, so is there any injure that could come from using these burners?
Answers: they should still work fine. usually the outer coating is a nonstick coating. electric burners are essentially large resistors. when you put power through them the resistance make them get hot. the more power the hotter they seize. make sure they aren't cracked adjectives the way through and you should be fine.
however since it is an apartment i would ask they government to replace them. once they get chipped they will enjoy a shorter life and could latter crack.
You shouldn't touch them when they are turned on.
