We just get our first gas bill since we've turned on the heat and we freshly can't afford to pay that every month, but it get so Cold here! I am waiting to hear from LIHEAP for assistance, any advice on insulation, approaching those door blockers or something?
Answers: Because you are renting there isn't anything you can do to boost the property without written consent and why should you even hold to...? Some landlords may be will to pay partly the costs for improvements..."some"...!
Things you can do are several but, of course, at hand is cost for that also... You can apply plastic inside over the windows on the framework, not the porthole itself... This will act a a double pane if taping the plastic entirely around the edges carefully. I would recommend 4 mil clear plastic from Lowes or Home Depot and not those rediculous window kit...
If there is nouns coming around the door edges then staple some wool bran insulating strip to the inside of the door frame where the door touches when closed. That comes contained by a small roll and costs little at Lowes or Home Depot... Be sure your door closes tightly and if it doesn't, re-allign the bolt bracket in the door frame covering...
You can place a blanket or rug at the door bottom to hold back the bottom draft... Most door bottom weatherstrips are useless but for the threshold type which are exceptionally expensive and require the door to be removed and possibly cut...
If you have lofty ceilings and ceiling fan or not...the heat is at the ceiling, not the floor... Keep a lover as close as possible to the ceiling and blowing downward to bring that hot air fund down for comfort...
Close rooms not used as temperate as possible...
When relaxing in the living room use throw blankets to hold surrounded by your body heat...
Pile extra blankets on the bed and consider a warm blanket as well...
If the floors are not carpeted...put down some voluminous area rugs to serve insulate the floors as well...
If you enjoy hot air fry then preserve a large pot of hose boiling on the stove often to make the addition of humidity as dry air is cold nouns and also unhealthy...
Turn thermostat down to 60 during the time if away and 65 - 68 if at home...65 when sleeping. You may want to consider buying one or two electric radiators just for the room you relax within and keep the furnace thermostat at 65 when home.
