I am staining a deck for some clients and the builders used non galvanized nails (im guessing, or cheap ones anyway) because after a few rain there are ugly black streaks down the wood. Ive tried a pressure washer next to deck and wood cleaner and hand sanding but nil seems to take it bad. bleach? peroxide? palm sander? any suggestions on how to remove these stains would be greatly appreciated asap

scrub them with some water and TSP, you can consequently coat them with a clear sealer ,if these nails are not galvanize they will eventually rust .

Oxalic acid might remove the stains, but they'll come put money on until the cause is removed. If I couldn't stand the look of the stains, I'd use a deck stain in a dark colour to minimize the appearance of them. Kind of a shame to do if they wanted the cedar look, but without removing and replacing adjectives the nails, I can't see any other choice. ...and that is how the personality who built the deck showed his/her laziness. DECK Screws are used by folks who want to do it right.

I have one fastener in my deck. It is on the end for slack up a bird feeder..
Answers:    These stains are in the wood to stay. You can seal them and paint over them, but the iron oxide will hold seeping into the wood.
