Ants within the house? I've got ants contained by the kitchen, ever since the weather...

I've got ants contained by the kitchen, ever since the weather has warm significantly. The landlady says it isn't her responsibility to pay envelope for an exterminator, so we're trying to do our best by keeping the kitchen spotless and arming ourselves with a can of spray. There are ant hill all over the garden. I don't see them elsewhere within the house, nor can I determine where they are coming contained by. Unfortunately, I'm having a perfect deal of trouble keeping up next to them (and the water bugs). Any suggestions?
I a short time ago read in Parenting Magazine that sprinkling baking soda around the areas of the house where on earth they are entering should stop them. I haven't tried this yet, though.

Scouring powder, close to Comet or Ajax.

If you put a little pile over the hole where on earth they come in at, should stop them.

They won't cross an unbroken column of it.
Sometimes they will try another path, and after you have to block it, too.
Answers:    terro ant slayer liquid form. Ants guzzle it and take it stern to their nest and feed it to their larva and so killing the intact nest, Cost about four bucks a bottle and works really resourcefully. Real easy to use and NO BAD SMELL!
