The door opens and closes fine. The spacing is worst at the at the bottom of the door and gradually get smaller towards the top. On one side the door, the railing is half in. stern from the frame of the house(if measured front to back) and half in. away(if measured side to side).
Answers: Hi Frank...flag down an mature carpenter and ask him to stop by and get his advice..sounds approaching who ever built the house got some measurements wrong or just set the jambs out of plumb...due to scarcity of knowledge. First it would be nice to have the leader jamb level and then the side jambs plumb..Then you could put a nice molding around the o.s. of the door..next fill or spray some insulation in the voids around the jamb..and sheet rock the inside or newly put a piece of trim around the inside the thinkness of the wall board...in our city.that has to be 5/8'" glutinous..we need what you call a 1 hr. fire wall...that's the concentration i just quoted you..x-rated sheetrock. Just talk to the ripened carpenter and he will be happy to tell you what to do...that make him feel good and you also. That's how he feed his family for years and that's his love.so he will be happy to share beside you. Do not be afraid to ask...he won't charge you anything. bye.
