Air conditioning repairs? My house has a Rudd Air conditioner installed surrounded by 1994...
My house has a Rudd Air conditioner installed surrounded by 1994 when the house was built. The contact points on the 24v relay at the element are burnt. I sand them as best I could but I really want to replace the part. It's a Honeywell R52426. Problem is that bit # no longer exists. Grainger's has 2 within their catalog and both look a lot similar to the one I am replacing. Does anyone know if it makes a difference ? If I turn with the most expenxive one, will that work for any application ?
Kinda stumped here, so any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Answers: Naw, make no difference, it is just a relay switch for past its sell-by date and on of the 220v.
They are called "contactors" a designation for higher voltage relays that slam the contacts closed immediately and hard to avoid any arcing which will burn the contacts.
But as you figure out they burn eventually and go out. It is fairly common.
As long as you can fit it surrounded by and screw it on they are VERY generic. The only consideration is power and 24volts coil but most are plenty fatty for residential use.
The only defence I used an exact replacement is if it fit in a tangible tight spot or I was self lazy and didn't wnat to drill any holes for the mounting screw which usually were 1/4" head sheet metal screws.
