I live in a 2 story townhome/apt and my upstairs is other hotter than my downstairs. For example, my downstairs could be cold (like at temps of 67 or 70 degrees) and my upstairs is like 79 or 80 degree. Does anyone have any suggestions? FYI, my building is old-fashioned. It was built within 1971.
Answers: Your ductwork was not designed for A/C originally.
I suspect contained by heating mode it's more of an even heat.
Cooling requires more airflow per BTU.
Possibly running the fan switch within continues may help.
I don't know if you own the home, but if you do you could put in more ducting to the 2ND level but surrounded by heating it will provide too much warmth and have to be on the same wavelength for winter.
The best way to correct would be to use zoning controls to isolate the upstairs and downstairs ductwork.
Call some contractors for estimates. Make sure they are contractors that consider themselves to be experts contained by remodel work.
Existing homes are much harder to work with as ducting that may want to be changed is usually in furred surrounded by areas and may be difficult to change.
Maybe you should start out by asking other residences contained by your complex as the apartments are typically all built alike.
They may have already done this and could direct you to a contractor specifically reputable to do this.
Well, we all know that steam rises so you can always expect your upper floors to be a bit warmer than the lower ones, however, the difference shouldn't be 10 degree. Replacing your AC unit beside a more powerful model would be the ultimate solution, but it's undoubtedly quite costly. There are fan that can be installed within the vent system (wherever the vents come into the house) that will force the atmosphere up through the system. As far as the least expensive solution is concerned, you can certainly get vent grates (the ones contained by the floor) that have built contained by fans surrounded by them that will pull cool nouns from the venting system into the room.
