230V 1 phase pool pump electrics? My boss asked me to install a new pump into a pool...

My boss asked me to install a new pump into a pool and the person who took it out didn't splodge the wires. if there is one green and two black wires. do i just hook the two blacks to L1 and L2 on the motor and the ground to green on the motor, and check that it is spinning contained by the correct directions? If there is one green , one black, and one white, where does the black shift, L1 or L2? And what if there are four wires? I saw a connection on the pump for a fourth cable, but there was no screw within the hole and as far as i know there is no switch on the motor.

Answers:    In 230V, both wires are hot, the green is ground. makes no difference which hot you connect to which Lx, connect green to ground on pump housing. AC motor will other trun correct direction
